Mapping custom HubSpot properties

Configure Cotonity to read and write custom HubSpot contact, company, and deal properties for highly tailored CRM automation.

Discovering custom properties

Cotonity automatically discovers all custom properties defined in your HubSpot portal at connection time and refreshes the list every 24 hours. To force an immediate refresh — useful after adding a new property in HubSpot — click Refresh Properties in Settings → HubSpot → Properties. Custom properties are organized by object type (Contact, Company, Deal, Custom Object) and property group, matching the structure you see in HubSpot's Properties settings. The internal property name (e.g., event_preference) is used in Cotonity expressions; the display label is shown in the UI for readability.

Property types and validation

HubSpot supports multiple property types: Single-line text, Multi-line text, Number, Date, Date and time, Single checkbox, Multiple checkboxes, Dropdown select, Radio select, and Calculation. Cotonity respects these types during write operations — for instance, it validates that a number property receives a numeric value and that a dropdown value matches one of the allowed options. If a value fails validation, the workflow logs a descriptive error and optionally routes to an error branch rather than silently dropping the update.

Writing to enumeration properties

Dropdown and radio properties require the internal option value (e.g., webinar) rather than the display label (e.g., Webinar). When mapping a Cotonity variable to an enumeration property, use the Property Value Helper in the mapping UI to browse the available options and their internal values. If your workflow collects a human-readable answer from a user — such as a chat response — use a Value Transformer step to normalize it to the correct internal value before writing to HubSpot, avoiding errors from mismatched labels.

Handling calculated properties

HubSpot calculated properties are read-only — they are computed by HubSpot based on other property values and cannot be written via the API. Cotonity marks these properties as read-only in the property picker and prevents accidental write attempts. However, you can read calculated property values in Cotonity workflows to drive branching logic. For example, use a contact's HubSpot-calculated Days to Close to personalize urgency messaging in an outreach sequence managed by Cotonity.
