Learn how to authorize the Cotonity Slack integration, choose which channels your agents can post to, and send your first AI-generated message.
Navigate to the Integrations panel
From the left sidebar, click Integrations. The gallery shows all available integrations grouped by category: Communication, CRM, Databases, Developer Tools, and E-commerce. Slack appears under Communication. Click the Slack tile, then click "Connect". Cotonity redirects you to Slack's OAuth authorization page. You must be a Slack workspace Admin (or have the "Apps" permission) to authorize a new app. If you are not an admin, the Slack page will prompt you to submit an approval request to your Slack workspace admins. Once approved, you are redirected back to Cotonity.
Configure channel permissions
After authorization, the Slack integration settings page opens. Here you can specify which channels Cotonity agents are permitted to post to. By default, the integration can only post to public channels the bot has been added to. To add the Cotonity bot to a channel, open Slack, go to the channel, type /invite @Cotonity, and press Enter. Back in Cotonity, click "Refresh Channels" to see the updated list. You can restrict individual agents to specific channel subsets using the Agent Channel Allow-List option, which prevents an agent meant for #support from accidentally posting in #general.
Map Slack events to agent triggers
Cotonity can listen to incoming Slack events and use them to trigger agents. Under the Event Subscriptions section of the Slack integration settings, toggle on the events you want to handle — for example, "New message in channel", "Mention of @Cotonity", or "Reaction added". For each event, you map it to an agent: select the agent from the dropdown and optionally add filter conditions, such as "only trigger if the message contains the keyword 'help'". This is how you build reactive workflows where a question posted in Slack automatically invokes your FAQ agent.
Send a test message
To verify everything is working, scroll to the bottom of the Slack integration settings page and click "Send Test Message". Choose a target channel from the dropdown and click "Send". Within a few seconds you should see a message in that Slack channel from the Cotonity bot with the text "Test message from Cotonity — your integration is working!" If the message does not appear, check that the bot has been added to the channel and that the channel is not archived. You can also review integration errors in Activity Logs → Filter by Integration → Slack.
