Setting up email notifications

Updated: 2026-08-18Reading time: 3 min

Configure which events trigger email alerts, set per-agent notification preferences, and manage digest schedules to stay informed without inbox overload.

Global notification preferences

Go to Settings → Notifications to open the global notification preferences panel. Here you can toggle email notifications on or off for each event category: Agent Run Failed, Agent Run Succeeded, Workflow Error, Integration Disconnected, Usage Limit Warning, and Team Activity. By default, only "Agent Run Failed" and "Integration Disconnected" are enabled, keeping your inbox lean. If you prefer to receive a weekly summary of all activity instead of real-time alerts, enable the "Weekly Digest" toggle at the top of the panel. Digests are sent every Monday at 9 AM in your account's configured timezone.

Per-agent notification overrides

Global preferences can be overridden for individual agents. Open an agent, go to its Settings tab, and scroll to the Notifications section. Here you can mute all notifications for low-priority agents, or escalate notifications for business-critical agents so that run failures send an alert immediately even if you have global "Agent Run Failed" notifications turned off. You can also specify additional email addresses (such as a team distribution list or a PagerDuty email address) that should receive alerts for this specific agent, without granting those addresses access to the full Cotonity workspace.

Notification thresholds

To avoid alert fatigue during periods of high failure rates, Cotonity supports notification thresholds. Under Settings → Notifications → Advanced, set a "Failure Burst Threshold" — for example, "Send a maximum of 3 failure emails per agent per hour". Once the threshold is hit, further failures within the hour are batched and sent as a single summary at the end of the hour. This is particularly useful for agents that process high volumes of messages and may temporarily spike in errors during downstream service outages. The threshold resets automatically at the start of each new hour.

Unsubscribing and re-subscribing

Every notification email from Cotonity contains an "Unsubscribe" link in the footer. Clicking it takes you to a one-click unsubscribe page that disables email notifications for your account. This is a blanket opt-out — it overrides all per-agent and global settings. If you accidentally click it or want to re-enable notifications later, go to Settings → Notifications and toggle the master "Email Notifications" switch back on. Note that transactional emails — such as account verification, password reset, and billing receipts — are not affected by the unsubscribe action and will continue to be delivered.
